How to enjoy your own company

enjoy your own company
I'm a people person, always have been and thought I always would be. It wasn't until I moved to the other side of the world away from family and friends to pursue a new career that I finally figured out that I'm actually quite cool and can enjoy spending time with... myself.

I've been pretty lucky with my network in England from growing up in Stockton, moving to Billingham, Uni in Newcastle and a job that allowed me to meet people from all over the country. In 2014 Michael and I went on a huge trip around Australia, staying in numerous hostels up and down the country and meeting people from all walks of life. I now have friends in different parts of the world and its great!

We made the decision to move to Melbourne earlier this year and have been here for just over a month. Most of the 'backpacking friends' that I made a few years ago have since moved on/gone back home. I have 1 Aussie mate who I worked with in Melbourne who I have not stopped pestering since I got here. I'm needy. I need friends. I need attention. So at least I thought.

I was definitely out of my comfort zone for a while and I'm still adjusting now. Before I knew it rather than human interaction 24/7 I was alone, working in my amazing home office with the most gorgeous views of Port Melbourne but still alone. At first I was counting down the hours until Michael returned from work just so I could talk his head off but now I'm starting to enjoy my me time.

It's all about adjusting and now I have my routine I'm loving life again. Change can be hard but you have to adapt. I now have a daily routine and feel like I'm where I want to be. I have a great job which I'm loving, I manage my own time and I do what I want to do.

No more Lonely Luce!

  1. I really enjoy hanging out with myself, it's always so fun. I love going to the art gallery or getting stuck in a good book. I love the idea of strolling along the beach, if only there was a beach nearby. Great post! xx
